Chase Frank is:
Chase Frank - guitar, vocals, piano, strings
Ahmad Jamal - drums, vocals, percussion

"If you want to be fearless, you've got to bleed," sings Chase Frank on her last album, Winter Is My Summer. She reaffirms her well-earned wisdom on this newest project, The Midnight Manor EP. Hear it for yourself, and for your benefit, a back-story:

Chase is not new to this whole music game; she was formally trained in piano and cello as a small child, and was even third chair in the International Children's Orchestra. Though she did not record (but did produce and mix) this most recent release, Chase went to audio engineering school and so has been able to record, produce, mix, and release her own music. At 14, Chase discovered the guitar, took some lessons, and the rest is... you know. Another landmark in Chase's musical life was when she heard an ethnomusicologist discussing the magic in repetition, i.e., that no matter how often something is repeated again and again, each time is at least a little different from the others. This spurred Chase to try out looping- she even records and loops guitar parts live on stage.

The Midnight Manor EP is a sublime, almost portentous collection of Chase's ruminations on life and its wiles; the music is blues-influenced rock with compelling drums, provocative lyrics, sophisticated arrangements, and mightily strummed, looping guitar lines. There is no room for questions about musical talent on this opus.

On Midnight Manor, Chase Frank fans may notice the addition of drums (absent in previous releases), which were provided by the lovely and gifted La Dawn Best (Squab). A standout track on the EP is "Bipolar Belle," a rolling, shanty-like tune about (what else) a temperamental female ("queen of the mood swing"). "Doubt" is a tune that explores one of Chase's favorite experiments in sound - repetition (and check out the rad drum solo at the end of the song). It's on "Some Friend You Are," though, that Chase seems to come closest to summing up her raison d'etre: between staccato guitar and drums, she snarls, "I'll stick your veins with the venom of a song."

After he sat in on some live sets with her, Chase Frank found her musical soul mate in long-time friend Ahmad Jamal, who has become a permanent member of the now-duo Chase Frank show. The two have been awing audiences up and down the California coast and in the Pacific Northwest, and plan to hit the rest of the country over the next year and beyond, while also putting together tracks for the next Chase Frank LP.

Beyond the music, Chase has never been and never will be afraid to go out on a limb in life. She's had to make sacrifices for her own survival, and her determination shows in the way she plays. Fearlessness is an understatement; the strength of Chase Frank's character comes through her music so clearly you can't help but want to get to know her. Take a step in that direction by checking out Chase Frank on the road in a venue near you soon.

Forcefield ON is:
Jake Berrey [bass]
John Sisk [guitar]

Off the beaten path of passed projects and musical relationships, ForceField ON only has one objective; to accomplish the task of writing completely from the heart. If you think it sounds like something else, that could be accurate, music has grown immensely, and is always going to be somewhat duplicated. If you feel that is sounds like nothing you've ever heard before, that would also be correct. All I can promise you is this; everything created by this band is orchestrated from the inside to the outside. Call it Folky, call it Singer/Songwriter, call it Indie Rock with Horns, but I think in the long run you will call it enchanting. The group's name comes more from a secluded feeling than an outer space adventure. Turning your force field on at the end of the day and concentrating on yourself. Weary of incorporating the new standards of Indie Rock with trends such as "The New Disco Beat" or "The Monotone Vocal", ForceField ON brings you the life of soft horns to an already pleasantly moody atmosphere of song, sometimes reminiscent of Elvis Costello or even The Flaming Lips. Straying away from too much distorted guitar, they bring you an orchestration of instruments equally being heard and not fighting for attention. With sliding guitar, horn pads, and ambient background knick-knacks, this is equivalent perhaps to a teeny tiny orchestra, without disregarding any meaningful rawness to the sound. The background on this band is almost like a maze. Singer/Guitarist JESSE WILDER, Lead Guitarist JOHN SISK, and Bassist JAKE BERREY have been musically joined for over 14 years in a series of different projects. Whereas Wilder and Drummer BRANDON LAWS have a different history of touring Europe with the likes of CHRIS CACAVAS (Green On Red), STEVE WYNN, CALEXICO, LAMBCHOP, BARBARA MANNING, and THE WILLARD GRANT EXPERIENCE. Trombonist MATT GUY was snagged up by Sisk at a local Long Beach club called The Prospector where he was performing with his band MARITIME ACADEMY. Trombonist COREY RUDOLPH was found over the Internet, during a search of local horn players, and turned out to be an amazing fit for the band. If you look into some of the members' past credits, you may find bands such as THE ALL AMERICAN REJECTS, TEEN HEROES, NEVILLE STAPLE (of The Specials), and even a gold record for co-writing with REEL BIG FISH. But don't be fooled, ForceField ON is a vast departure from any of this. With their fan base rapidly growing as well as their progression in music this group is on the move in a lot of directions, including their full length release due out Spring of 2007. If you have any questions regarding Forcefield ON you can contact them at the address below or to get a real grasp on the sound, go see them play. Thank you for your time.

Free Moral Agents is the brainchild of Isaiah Ikey Owens (Keyboardist for The Mars Volta). Starting as a solo project and expanding with Isaiah in his decade-long career of collaborations with Mastadon, Sublime, Z-trip, El-P, Saul Williams, and De Facto. FMA has become a collective musical force from Long Beach, CA. Free Moral Agents released their debut Everybody's Favorite Weapon on GSL Records in late 2004. With freestyle moments layered over vibrant melodies, heavy beats and jazzy interludes Favorite Weapon was just the beginning for this side-project.

Out on the road with Mars Volta, Isaiah kept thinking of ways to expand Free Moral Agents. In 2006, FMA reformed from solo-project to six-member group and started improvising new material. With the lineup of Mendee Ichikawa (Vocals), Reid Kinnet (Rhodes), Jesse Carzello (Guitar), Dennis Owens (Bass), Ryan Reiff (Drums) and Isaiah jumping from keyboard to keyboard, FMA has a prolific batch of new material.
In and out of the studio several times in 2007, Free Moral Agents collaborated with Miguel Happoldt (Sublime), Opie Ortiz (Long Beach Dub All Stars), Philieano (Skunk Records), Daedelus & members of Look Daggers to release two EP's. In addition to the studio work, Free Moral Agents played a handful of gigs during CMJ Marathon in New York in addition to southern California shows.

"subdued dreamy melodies and sleepy tempos . . . a lovely, serene, psychedelic interlude" - HARP

"lush, densely layered slices of pop that awaken the senses , an Andy Partridge wet dream" - Paste

"big, bounding Wurlitzer chords and swirls of Mellotron, Hammond, and Chamberlin; languid verses balanced with jangling guitars, a sonic signature that demonstrate the band's talent for songcraft." - Pitchfork

"the perfect blend of velvety 60's-style pop and psychedelia, the result is a distinct sound, where bongos, electric piano and trumpet can happily co-exist." - Ripsaw

"full of sweet melodies and whispy, moody soundscapes, sort of how a jazz ensemble would sound if they took a lot of drugs, that just-woke-up, lying-in-bed feeling... this year's eerie soundtrack music for endless midnight drives to nowhere" - OC Weekly

The songs the asphalt sings to you as you fly across it from city to city, with that odd familiarity you might feel in different places, seeing them for the first time. It's that crazy midnight loneliness falling upon you the further you drive on. You now have all the freedom in the world to disappear into the background and watch your front windshield like a picture show as you speed across the music conceived and inspired by the obsessive American roadtrip.

With the success of their 2002 debut release, The Little Pacific, Greater California established their own distinct sound, often inspired by the works of Love, Brian Wilson, the Velvet Underground, the Zombies and Nick Drake. A sound immersed in the musical territory of the 60s with an emphasis on atmosphere, neither understated nor grandiose, and often rooted in minor jazz chordal structures. The band has had the pleasure of opening up for such notable acts as American Analog Set, Calexico, Papa M, Rock Four, The Kingsbury Manx, Jesse Sykes, Fruit Bats and The Minders.
